McTimoney manipulation is a chiropractic technique, developed predominantly to treat dysfunction in the spinal column and pelvis. This, coupled with massage techniques, offers an overall musculoskeletal manual therapy, readily accepted by most horses.
At the start of your session, a full history of you horse will be taken. This includes any veterinary notes, lameness history, and information relating to work load.
We will request to see the horse walked and trotted up, should a suitable area be available.
The horse will be assessed for conformation, muscle development and areas of tension, as well as misalignment and dysfunction.
Due to the Veterinary Surgeons (Exemptions) Order 2015, Veterinary permission is required to be able to treat your horse.
During this stage of your session, any muscle tension, and misalignments, and areas of dysfunction will be treated.
Rachael uses her hands, to work across the horses body, at a pace the horse is comfortable with. Time is taken to ensure the horse is responsive to the work, and most sessions are finished with some static stretches, so have some goodies your horse loves ready!
Depending on you horses needs, a follow up session will be discussed. These can be within a few weeks, 3 monthly, 6 monthly, or annually.
A comprehensive aftercare routine will also be discussed, laying out and explaining specific exercises, in-hand or ridden, which would benefit your horse following their session.
After a treatment session, we recommend at least 24 hours 'off work' for the horse, to allow the body to rest and recuperate.
